What is terminal tax?

Terminal tax is the remaining income tax payable after credits and provisional-tax payments are taken into account for the income year.

For a standard 31 March balance date, terminal tax is generally due 7 February. It is generally due 7 April when a valid tax-agent extension of time applies. Check the taxpayer's myIR account because balance date, extension status and other circumstances can change the date.
