What if my old accountant is still finishing my last return?

Common situation - and easy to handle. The recommended approach:

1. Sign up for Afirmo and invite xerosupport@afirmo.com into Xero as an Adviser
2. Let your old accountant finish your outstanding return (e.g. FY26)
3. Do NOT switch your Tax Agency Authority to Afirmo yet - this would knock your old accountant off mid-process
4. Once they have filed, message Afirmo on live chat. The team will activate Tax Agency Authority and confirm migration is complete
5. Cancel Xero after

Worth letting your old accountant know that Afirmo will be picking up from the next financial year, so they can wrap up cleanly. Most accountants are fine with this.
